posted Dec 29, 2014, 1:06 PM by TC Administrator
Second semester is almost here.  I hope the first half of the school year has been enjoyable and successful for your student and family.  Here are a few important events and dates to keep in mind for January:

January 1       No school.  Happy New Year!

January 2       No school

January 5       No school.  Staff in-service

January 13     School Improvement Advisory Committee meeting, 6:30 p.m.

January 14     No Preschool

January 16     Elementary Student Council meeting, 3:30 p.m.

January 17     Lego League to state competition in Ames

January 19     No school.  Staff in-service

January 30     No Preschool

Letter from the Department of Education.  Letters from Dr. Brad Buck, Director of the Department of Education were sent home with all elementary students in December.  Dr. Buck’s letter explains the Early Literacy Initiative being implemented across the state of Iowa.  Elementary staff have been working and will continue to work toward implementing all aspects of this initiative.  Please visit our website at here to see a copy of Dr. Buck’s letter.

Community meetings.  Your school board members and I have had very productive meetings in Neola and Minden regarding the financial challenges our school district is currently facing.  Over 80 community members have been able to hear information and ask questions.  We will continue with meetings when school resumes in January.  The January meetings will be at the following locations:

Beebeetown area
January 5th                St. John’s Lutheran Church, 7:00 p.m. - 30907 Coldwater Avenue, Honey Creek

January 15th                 Trinity Lutheran Church, 7:00 p.m.

Thank you to Pastor Kuhnle at St. John’s, and Pastor Ostebee at Trinity for allowing us to use their facilities for these important meetings.  At least one board member and I will be at each of the locations above to share information and discuss questions with community members able to attend.

School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC).  Tri-Center will be holding the first School Improvement Advisory Council (SIAC) meeting in the high school library Tuesday, January 13th at 6:30 p.m.  The agenda for the January meeting can be downloaded here.  Please contact Angie Huseman if you have questions about the SIAC meetings.

I hope everyone in our community will be able to rest, enjoy some time with loved ones, and recharge their batteries for a busy and exciting second semester.  Personally, I am looking forward to experiencing my first winter and spring season of academics, athletics, and student competitions and activities here at Tri-Center.  As always, please call, email, or stop by any of the school offices if you have any questions or concerns.

Dr. Tony Weers, Ed.D.
