Superintendent Update: September Communications

posted Sep 3, 2015, 1:32 PM by TC Administrator
Welcome back to school, Tri-Center Community!  I hope all families had a great summer vacation and are enjoying the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.  I reread the book, How Full Is Your Bucket? this summer, and this quotation really stuck out to me, “…negative emotions might cut more years off life expectancy than smoking.  There’s no surgeon general’s warning about toxic emotions, but perhaps there should be.”  Life can be challenging and difficult for students, families, school-staff, and anyone in our community.  Positivity always improves mood, energy, and performance in any organization.  Choosing a positive attitude every day is something I invite our community to join with us at Tri-Center in doing for our students and community.  Here are a few key events to be aware of for the month of September:

September 4th No Preschool
September 7th No School – Labor Day
September 8th Election Day
September 9th Preschool Picture Day
September 11th 4th Grade to Carsten Farms
September 13th -18th  Homecoming Week
September 21st No Preschool
September 23rd Farm Safety Day Grades 3-5
September 24th Picture Day K-12
September 24th Preschool to Arrowhead
September 25th 1:30 Dismissal – InService
September 28th NWEA Testing
September 30th 5th Grade to Living History Farms

SIAC Committee.  Iowa code 280.12 directs local school districts to appoint and meet with a School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC).  This committee will be presented with assessment scores related to recent school goals and discuss school improvement needs for the future.  The committee will meet 3-4 times throughout the year.  If you are interested in serving on the Tri-Center SIAC, contact Angie Huseman at: ahuseman@tctrojans.org or 712-485-2257.

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences.  We are making a minor change to the schedule for Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Parent-Teacher Conferences are going to be held Tuesday, October 6th and Wednesday, October 7th due to a scheduling conflict on October 8th.  School will be dismissed at 1:30 on the 6th and 7th, with conferences being held from 4:00 to 8:00 both nights.  Elementary conferences will be scheduled by classroom teachers; secondary conferences will be held in the cafetorium.  Thursday, October 8th will be a full day of school, and there will be no school Friday, October 9th.

Please call, email, or stop by one of the school offices if you have questions, and thank you all for the opportunity to work with and serve your students.
Tony
