Going to a small school means having the opportunity to participate in multiple sports and activities. Being in band and volleyball both mean a lot to me. On Saturday, September 30th I had the opportunity to have major success in both. Our home volleyball tournament was that morning starting at 8:30. We swept the day to become tournament champs! The Clarinda Band Jamboree was also that day, and there are a number of girls who are in both volleyball and band. Our teammates and coaches all hoped the tournament would end in time for my mom to drive us over to Clarinda in time for the field show. Our last match of the day ended at 1:30, and after changing and loading the school van, Lilly, Olivia, and I were on our way by 1:40. We performed at 3:15 and knew that it would be very close to make it on time. We got dressed in our full band uniform on the way there and had our instruments out and ready. Phone calls and texts went back and forth on the way there to keep both ends updated. As we pulled into Clarinda, my mom drove us up to the football field and we hopped out. We sprinted down to the edge of the field and got in line with our fellow bandmates. It could not have been closer. The band eventually placed first in Class 1A for field show. The thrill of the day made it really fun. The day was long, exciting, and successful for everyone.
