Four Tri-Center students were selected to perform as part of the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band at the Outback Bowl on Tuesday, January 1 in Orlando, Florida. Among the students were: Luke Hundtofte, trumpet; Joey Wohlers, trombone; Torie Thayer, guard; and Marie Ohlinger, alto saxophone. Paul Hart, Tri-Center band director, was a high brass staff member of the honor band. The marching band performed on New Year's Eve in the Outback Bowl Parade and on New Year's Day as the Iowa Hawkeyes took on Mississippi State.

Members of the band were selected in May 2018 with a camp taking place in August. The group also participated in the Iowa State Parade in August. There were a total of 193 students in the marching band, made up of students from across Southwest Iowa. Music the band performed included an armed forces salute, a Billy Joel medley, and America-Sweet Caroline. Once in Orlando, the band had two days of practice before marching in the Outback Bowl Parade and performing with other high school bands in a mass band half-time show. Band members were also able to visit Universal Studios, Treasure Island Beach, and Busch Gardens while on their trip.
